Preparing the Van for Winter
As winter arrives in the Northeast, it is regrettably time to put the van away for winter time. Slow Ride fits perfectly in a 10' x 20' storage unit, keeping it out of the snow for the season.
Before putting it away, I remove all deep cycle batteries from the solar charging system. Harsh cold temperatures can damage batteries, and it is important to keep them in a warmer climate. I bring mine into my apartment, and will reinstall it in the spring.
All food items I can bring inside also come into my apartment. Wild temperature changes can affect the quality of the food, making it undesirable or even inedible. Most canned/dry goods will last through the winter, and will be fine to put back into the van in spring time.
After doing some research, I discovered that both propane will be completely fine if left in the van; it is unaffected by cold temperatures. However, butane needs to come inside, as temperatures below freezing will cause problems
